It is our mission to make professional counseling services affordable for everyone. Standard client fees are set on an individual basis by our counseling staff. Please view each therapist’s profile for further information. In special circumstances due to economic hardship, a lower fee can be arranged on a case-by-case basis. If this is your situation, please complete the Sliding Fee Scale Application and bring it to your first session, along with required documentation, to discuss with your therapist.
OBCC is a nonprofit organization and our fees are designed to ensure that we can pay all our costs associated with the organization. A portion of these expenses is defrayed by tax-exempt contributions, but we must rely on client fees to cover our costs. It is important, therefore, that payment be made at the time services are provided unless prior arrangements have been made. We accept major credit cards, check/money order or cash.
OBCC does accept insurance. However, most major medical insurance policies will only cover treatment determined as “medically necessary”, which requires a psychiatric diagnosis, and covers only part of the cost with the client being responsible for the remainder of the fee. With our competitive fee structure, a client’s co-payment may be the same as paying out-of-pocket. Likewise, most insurance companies do not cover marriage or family counseling. However, when you pay directly without using insurance, you may seek counseling from a mental health professional for any reason you choose without needing a formal psychiatric diagnosis. People use therapy for personal growth, for help coping with stressful life situations, and for marriage and family difficulties, as well as for chronic and serious psychological problems.
If you should choose to bill your insurance, we recommend that you use the HMO Insurance Worksheet. This insurance verification form provides suggested questions and other helpful information that you need to know when dealing with your HMO.
